In a bold strategic move, Sei Labs, the core development team behind the Sei blockchain, has proposed a complete shift to the ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), effectively dropping Cosmos support. The proposal, detailed in SIP-3, aims to simplify the network and attract more developers by aligning with the widely adopted EVM ecosystem. This transition underscores the growing dominance of Ethereum’s infrastructure in the blockchain space and could significantly impact Sei’s future growth and adoption.

Sei Labs Proposes Full Transition to EVM, Dropping Cosmos Support

Sei Labs, the core development team behind the Sei blockchain, has unveiled a radical proposal to abandon Cosmos compatibility in favor of an Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-exclusive framework. The move, outlined in SIP-3, aims to streamline the network and enhance developer engagement by aligning with existing EVM-centric activity.

"This isn’t just a technical shift—it’s a strategic realignment," said co-founder Jay Jog, noting that EVM already dominates network usage. The transition paves the way for SEI Giga, a high-performance blockchain designed for scalability. The decision underscores Ethereum’s enduring influence as the de facto standard for smart contract platforms.

Ethereum Proposes 66% Gas Limit Increase to 60 Million for Enhanced Efficiency

Ethereum core developers are advancing a proposal to raise the network’s gas limit by 66% to 60 million units, aiming to boost transaction throughput and reduce congestion. The upgrade, confirmed by developer Parithosh Jayanthi on May 7, follows successful testnet deployments on Sepolia and Holesky. "We start shipping 60M on Sepolia tomorrow, Holesky shortly after. If deemed SAFE with all bugs patched, we ship on mainnet," Jayanthi stated.

The gas limit dictates the computational workload per block, encompassing transactions, smart contracts, and dApp interactions. A higher limit could mark a pivotal step in Ethereum’s scalability roadmap, particularly after the recent Pectra upgrade. Market observers note the timing aligns with growing demand for block space amid rising DeFi and NFT activity.

Sei Network Proposes Cutting Cosmos Compatibility to Focus on Ethereum

Sei Network, a blockchain developer, has proposed deprecating its Cosmos support to streamline operations and reduce complexity for users. The move would restrict SEI transactions to Ethereum-compatible ones, simplifying the blockchain and cutting infrastructure costs.

Philip Su, Engineering Lead at Sei Labs, argues that abandoning Cosmos will strengthen Sei’s position within the Ethereum ecosystem. "This transition will lead to greater adoption, improved developer experience, and a more cohesive community," he said.

The proposal comes as blockchain infrastructure projects vie for developer attention and ecosystem expansion. Ethereum’s dominance in decentralized applications and smart contracts makes it a strategic focal point for networks like Sei.

Space and Time Launches Mainnet to Enable ZK-Proven Data for Crypto Applications

Microsoft-backed blockchain platform Space and Time has officially launched its public, permissionless mainnet, marking a significant step forward for zero-knowledge (ZK)-proven data in decentralized applications. The platform is designed to index and store blockchain data across a decentralized validator network, with initial support for Ethereum.

Space and Time introduces Proof of SQL, a sub-second ZK coprocessor that allows developers to query and verify database information before feeding it back into smart contracts. This innovation addresses a critical gap in onchain application development, where secure database access was previously a major hurdle.
